Pongal

Ingredients
1 cup moong dal/pesara pappu
1 cup rice
6 green chillies
oil 2/3 tsp
2/3 tsp ghee
pepper seeds 1 tsp
cumin seeds 1tsp
mustard seeds 1tsp
1 inch cinnamon stick
3/4 cloves/ lavangam
curry leaves
water
salt to taste

Procedure

  • Fry pesara pappu in a pan till it turns brown and keep aside.Allow it to cool.
  • Now,take a cup rice in a bowl and add pesarapappu to it and wash it.
  • In a cooker,add 2 spoons oil,2 spoons ghee and let it get heat.Now,add pepper seeds,cumin seeds,mustard seeds,green chillies,cinnamon stick,cloves,curry leaf and fry till they turn little brown.
  • Now,add the rice and pesarapappu from bowl to cooker and add 6 cups of water(3 cups for 1 cup of rice and 3 cups for 1 cup of pappu).Add salt to taste and close the lid of the cooker.
  • Allow it to be on stove till it gives 3 proper whistles.It depends on how much water you pour.
